Malay Restaurant has been a special place for my family since the 1990s, offering authentic Malaysian cuisine that brings us back time and time again. Their dishes are consistently flavorful, comforting, and full of tradition. Must-Try Dishes: * Roti Canai - Perfectly crispy and flaky, paired with a rich curry sauce. * Satay - Juicy, tender skewers served with the most addictive peanut sauce. * Hainanese Chicken over Rice - A classic done right with fragrant rice and perfectly poached chicken. * Char Kway Teow - Smoky and savory stir-fried noodles packed with shrimp, bean sprouts, and chives. * BBQ Fish Fin - Fresh, bold, and grilled to perfection. Beyond the incredible food, the hospitality here is unmatched. One of the staff members, Lilian, has been taking care of me since 2009. Over the years, her warm service has made every visit feel like coming home. Today, both of us still look just as great and young - a testament to good food, good company, and good vibes! For anyone seeking a true taste of Malaysia in New York, Malay Restaurant is a timeless gem that continues to deliver amazing food and memories.
Everybody I know told me this is their to go to spot for Malaysian food, so I decided to give it a try and this is the best Malaysian restaurant I’ve ever had! It has an old charm to it. Everything I’ve ate was delicious and seasoned perfectly! Highly recommend the roti canai, chicken/beef combo skewers, cream shrimp, and water spinach with shrimp paste! The service was quick and the workers are humble and nice!
This restaurant has been around for as long as I remember - since the early 90s! Love their authenticity and offering for classic Malay dishes you can’t get elsewhere. Boss lady is also so friendly and will personally come out to chat with you .. she’s from the state of Pahang near Georgetown where I’m from. They have Yu-Sheng prosperity toss and harmonious lunar new year dishes! Also tried their “Bee Tai Bak/Fried Pearl Noodles” which is pleasantly reminiscent of Penang Steamed shrimp steamed over egg was a nice light touch. They didn’t have their Lobak today (five spice meat rolls) but I really liked it on days I was able to snag an order! Everything is super sedap and is a must try!
Coming here is a trip down memory lane as my family regularly ate here in the 90s when we would trek out to Flushing for a full day of errands. It was our reward before the long drive home. Of course over time the chefs and preparation of the dishes have changed. I can’t fault them for things not tasting like they used to, I’m nostalgic for something that can’t be replicated. It is still hits the spot though and satisfies that tasty rice craving. I hope this place continues to thrive as we certainly don’t need more fast food chains erasing our food memories.
Having lived in Malaysia for two years, and being convinced that Malaysian food is the best in the world, Malay Restaurant in Flushing did NOT disappoint! Especially tasty was the Chow Kway Teow. Sedap sekali!
Had the Hainanese chicken and Roti Canai here—both were delicious! The chicken was tender with fragrant rice, and the bun came warm and fluffy with a rich curry filling. Cozy, casual spot that feels like a true taste of Malaysia in Flushing. Great comfort food and friendly service!
